I recently met a very helpful dude online. I was trying to debug some snazzy Javascript at Mike Manor Music and I was hitting a wall. I posted a plea for help at MooForum. Troy replied on the forum that he was willing to help. He provided the code that I was using for free. He also offered to give support for the code for free. We used GTalk and Pastie to narrow down the code. Troy patiently taught a newbie (me) some basic methods for debugging code. When we finally found the bug I was ashamed. The bug was something I introduced into the code. It ended up being a simple fix. I thanked Troy and offered to pay him for his time. He declined and we parted ways. With the internet being mostly anonymous it was nice to meet someone willing to step out and be a real person. More than anything, it taught me to never underestimate the power of unconditional service. If you get the chance, or you need a web developer, you can find Troy at consider: open.

Stuff that I want to keep, but not stuff that is useful in my everyday workflow. I’ve been using Evernote since it was first introduced. In my opinion this is the coolest Web 2.0 software ever. It works on the Mac and iPhone (also Windows and Windows Mobile—if you are into that kinda thing). Evernote is a super-advanced notebook. You can use it to keep track of your notes and web clippings just like other notebook software. The coolness enters when you upload a photo with text. It can be text in a nice font, handwriting or scribbles on a paper. Evernote scrubs your uploaded text and makes it completely searchable! You can access your notes through the client software or through your webbrowser. Evernote has become my collection box for all things! Try out their generous free account and save your notes forever!

So I created a FileMaker Database to keep track of those actions that were repetitive. In the real world we call this “habits.” Well, that lasted several months, but I kept running into the same problem. My database looks like trash and it is not fun updating my habits.

Yesterday, I (re)stumbled on the site Joe’s Goals. I love the simple look and the ease of use. Completing each goal gives you points. The ability to share your goals with others also gives me a big kick in the dooper to keep up with my habits. If you are like me, and you start things without finishing them, then check out Joe’s Goals.

I love to compete. Maybe you have some of the same goals and you can challenge me to score more points! Bring it on!

So far I am still an old fashioned blogger and I am not into the new-fangled online fads of all the kids these days. I also pledge never to become so addicted to Facebook that I am willing to loose my job over it. Enter—eBible. An online Bible that is chock-full of Web 2.0 features. All the way from AJAX to tagging. eBible presents the Bible in a clean interface rather than an out-of-date interface like Bible Gateway or a cluttered interface such as StudyLight.org. This Web 2.0 program makes the Bible fun and easy to use. However, don’t let its simplicy fool you. eBible offers dictionaries, commentaries, and my favorite—a paralell Bible option. So if you want to try out the latest and greatest Web 2.0 Bible, add your name and email in the comments section. Be quick though because I only have 3 eBible invites. I recieved my invite a bit unconventionally. I told the eBible team that I was a blogging Mac user as well as a poor seminary student. Here was their relpy:

“Just because you spoke the love language of blogging and macs we will let you in. That and seminary students deserve more perks. Have fun and remember we only work with Camino and Firefox on Macs right now (Safari support will come at some point though). Blessings!”

The great thing is that Camino is my favorite browser. Even better is that after all that special treatment and after previewing the quality of eBible (even in its beta stages) my new prefered online Bible is eBible!
